About

Black Crossword is the premier destination for word gamers interested in Black culture and the diaspora. We aim to create puzzles that engage with Black popular culture while playfully and meaningfully challenging our users and educating solvers.

Black Crossword was founded by Juliana Pache, a first-generation Afro-Caribbean American whose passion for Black diasporic legacies were developed while working at her local library in her teens, where she delved into rich and complex historical texts. This passion continued during her undergraduate studies at Temple University, where she worked at her college library. After obtaining a B.A. in Media Studies and Production, she worked in marketing and media, most notably at Rolling Stone, VICE, and The FADER.

Launched in January 2023, we currently offer a free daily mini puzzle and have plans to launch standard size puzzles under a subscription later in 2024.

We’re based in Brooklyn, and “we” are a team of one (for now).
